As a member of the Technica design team, one of my current endeavors is designing and illustrating digital materials for the upcoming 2024 Technica hackathon. Technica is a University of Maryland, College Park, student-run organization that annually hosts the world's largest hackathon for underrepresented genders, with the 2023 hackathon having received 100+ submissions from 800+ participants. The design team aims to create professional, inclusive graphics to emphasize the organization's goal of promoting greater diversity in STEM fields.
I created assets for the website and mobile app alongside various forms of merchandise. The images below (left to right, top to bottom) consist of the website footer, a graphic illustration for the website, character designs for branding, a cake design for the hackathon's 10th anniversary, a low-fidelity wireframe for the website, an acrylic keychain sketch, and sticker sketches. I used a variety of digital art and UI/UX design programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Figma, and FireAlpaca. Developing these designs required a thorough understanding of the hackathon's approach to promoting the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) frameworks, an ability to consistently visually incorporate the 2024 whimsical "Alice in Wonderland" theme, and frequent, effective communication with other organizers through the Slack messaging platform.
